Khao Laem Dam

Set in the Kanchanaburi province of Thailand adjacent to the Burmese border, this 60km long x 25km wide dam is a fishing in Thailand paradise. Amidst the Kanchanaburi jungle you get a real feel for wild natural fishing, in some of Thailands most beautiful landscapes.

Khao Laem is a lure fishing mecca, with mangroves, sunken trees and islands making locating fish both intriguing and exciting. The rocks, forests and overhanging grass verges make placing the lure accurately in search of your preditory quarry. All four species of snakehead can be found at Khao Laem, with the giant snakehead growing to 15kg, the great snakehead to 20kg and striped and cobra up to 4kg. Other species such as Tiger Perch, Featherbacks, Wallego Attu and Tilapia will all take lures and flys.

Carp fishing after the monsoon rains is also very popular, with Rohu (Indian Carp), Mrigal (Small scale mud carp) and Thai Black Carp (Black shark minnow). Rohu can grow to 20kg+, and pre baiting is best for results in this vast expanse of water. Our guides have fished Khao Laem for over 20 years, and know the most productive locations and tactics. Other species caught at Khao Laem include Yellow Catfish, Thai Redtail Catfish and Java Barb.
